Diabetes, Obesity Associated with Liver Cancer in New Large Study
A study in Cancer Research, which relied on data from 14 prospective studies with a combined 1.5 million participants, found that body mass index, waist circumference and diabetes are linked to an increased risk of liver cancer. The study found that cancer diagnoses increased with an increase in body mass index. It also found that for each two-inch increase in waist size there was an eight percent increase in the risk of liver cancer. Peter Campbell of the American Cancer Society said: "Liver cancer isn't simply related to excess alcohol intake and viral hepatitis infection." Adding, "This is yet another reason to maintain a body weight in the 'normal' range for your height." Cancer Research is a journal from the American Association for Cancer Research.
